Masters Ladies Over 45’s Inaugural Game

Taunton’s Very Own Golden Girls supreme on First Outing

Overs  v Unders

Vale Plus Gals v Vale Plus Girls

7  -   4

The golden girls of Vale Plus put on a stunning performance in their first match as a team. The squad have formed ready to enter The England Masters Overs 45’s cup this season and on this showing their first cup game will be eagerly anticipated.

The Golden Gals Team:

Anne Balderstone-Dowds (Capt), Bronwyn Seegar, Helen ‘pocket rocket’ Donovan, Dee Lancaster, Julia Walkley, Ruth Fitzmaurice, Pat Walker, Angela Davies, Carol Matravers ( England over 60’s), Clare Hayes (England over 40’s), Hazel Binding, Elaine Balderstone-Dowds, Angle Davies, Elaine Gale, Angela Warns ( England over 60’s), Sally Pitkin

Despite injury and holiday hitting five of the squad the wise gals were able to put together a fine display of passing hockey. The match was part of Vale Fest at TVHC on Saturday.

The game was started by Nan Williams( Ex Full England International) and as the ‘oldies’ got into their stride there was no stopping them netting a total of 7 goals with the ‘girls’ netting 4.

The goal fest started with Hazel Binding scoring the opener – it was cat and mouse through the quarters being played until in the fourth quarter when the ‘overs’ were able to regain the lead and score a further two sublime goals from an in form Donovan who had already scored two making her the top goal scorer of the game.

The match was played at a good standard by both teams in a fantastic atmosphere of friendship, sportsmanship and fun. Goes to show hockey can be a lifelong sport. If you are tempted to play please see TVHC website for details of training for squads and back to hockey sessions for those who perhaps haven’t played for a while – it can be a long while – all are welcome!
